5 Tennis Wardrobe Fails
It’s happened to all of us at one time or another. I remember wearing two different shoes to the office one day. They were even different colors, one black and the other navy. Then there was the time, I had my skirt on inside out which led to many raised eyebrows and snide comments.
We are all so rushed these days that fitting in a tennis match during the week sometimes means squeezing it into the tiniest of calendar openings. Sandwiched somewhere between taking the kids to school, remote work-from-home responsibilities and not to mention the daily household chores of making beds, laundry, dishes, meals and walking the dogs. Putting your things together for your tennis match, more often than not, gets put off until the last minute. And that’s okay. It’s just a matter of how you handle the rush and whether you 're able to wear it well. By a Thread - She shops for her kids and her husband at a moment's notice but always thinks she’ll have time to shop for her own essentials later. Well, she put this one off one serve too many. Just as she came down on the ball with her follow through she said she felt it snap. The bra strap, which she knew was already fraying, finally called it quits and refused to support her any longer. Her friendly and highly competitive partner took her aside and held up her towel as a makeshift dressing room. The bra was remove and thrown in the trash. They won their match as their opponents, distracted by the event, were rendered motionless like deer in headlights. Top It Off - She had just pulled her skirt on for her morning tennis match when she suddenly got a call from school. Did her daughter make it to school alright? Was she feeling sick? She crossed her fingers that the voice on the other end of the phone did not have bad news. “Claire left her lunch on the kitchen table” said the voice. Relieved at the news, she was resolved to dropping the lunch off on her way to her match. Crisis averted. Until she got to the court and realized she was only half dressed for her match! At least she had on her pretty little silk pajama top and not the well-worn Lilith Fair tank, circa 1998, she sometimes sleeps in. Flip or Flop - It was one of those mornings. The kids woke up on time. No one complained about having nothing to wear and they all ate each piece of cut up fruit like it was their job. She allowed herself to enjoy her second cup of coffee in the quiet of the early morning.
Then, as she gathered up her things for her tennis match, she smiled as she caught herself about to leave the house without her electrolyte drink she’d prepared the night before and placed in the refrigerator to chill to the desired temp. “Phew. That would have ruined my perfect morning” she thought. When she arrived at the courts, she made her way to where the rest of the team was convening. As she walked the short distance from her car, she noticed the faint but familiar sound of flip flops and then realized that it was coming from the flip flops attached to her feet. Born with unfortunately wide feet, she squeezed into a borrowed pair of shoes determined to save her day from being a total flop. Peek-A-Boo - It’s so nice when the ladies who aren’t in the line-up still come out for the day to cheer on the team and enjoy a day of tennis. She walked into the gazebo with a salad she’d made to contribute to the table. She was dressed in a flowing maxi dress her husband had recently bought for her on a whim. It was a beautiful spring day and the breeze was at our backs as we watched our #1 singles close out her first set. Standing behind her, we noticed an interesting pattern starting to reveal itself at the bottom half of her dress as the wind wrapped the fabric around her shape. Was that her rear end exposing itself to us? Why, yes it was! The harder the wind blew the clearer it became just how see-thru her new frock was! And the fact that she was so comfortably not wearing underwear, also made it apparent that the dress was likely a 'Thank You' gift from her most appreciative hubby ;) The Big Reveal - It was cold on the court that day at tennis practice. So she kept her warm layer of clothing on during stretching and warm-ups. Just before drills started, she felt she was good and loose and decided to shed some layers to help her swing more freely. She put her racquet on the bench and removed her sweatshirt. Then in one smooth motion, she pulled down her track pants and to everyone’s surprise, most especially hers, she found that her favorite shorts didn’t actually make it onto her body as she got dressed that day. Fortunately, she is a proponent of dressing your best from the inside out. And according to the waistband, Victoria Secret would have been very proud.
